With the arrival of summer, days grow longer, and life naturally moves outdoors. This season awakens a historical urge within communities: to occupy squares, live in towns, and travel pathways with the peace that only shared time can provide. Summer is not just a change in temperature; it is a mental and political state that invites us to slow down, look directly at those walking alongside us, and reclaim public space as the main stage of our lives. It is during these sunlit months that neighborhoods activate with the greatest force, proving that streets gain their true meaning when filled with culture, neighborly gatherings, and the steady, sustainable roll of bicycles.

However, defending this active, rural, and community-centered life requires attention, care, and often a high dose of courage. In this newsletter, we feature three initiatives leveraging the season's energy to transform their local realities, directly connecting territory with collective action. From the asphalt of Mallorcan villages waiting to be conquered by children's cycling, to popular festivals resisting summer overcrowding with music and dance, to the unwavering solidarity of those who raised their voices right on the highway to defend Human Rights. We invite you to dive into these summer campaigns and add your drop so everyone's space remains a place of life and transformation.

Support the Becerril 8 for participating in the boycott against Israel during La Vuelta

This anti-repressive solidarity campaign is driven by the Asamblea de Vivienda de Villalba alongside the group of activists prosecuted following a peaceful protest action. On September 13, 2025, during the penultimate stage of La Vuelta a España through Becerril de la Sierra, over a hundred people mobilized to voice their rejection of the participation of the Israeli team Premier Tech and show support for the Palestinian people. Following this act of non-violent civil disobedience, the Civil Guard detained one activist and investigated seven more, who now face charges of assaulting authority, disobedience, and public disorder, with anticipated prison sentence requests.

The project holds vital importance as it transcends the individual sphere; it seeks to expose and halt the criminalization of the right to protest and civil disobedience, understood as fundamental democratic guarantees. The activists denounce an attempt by institutions to enforce an exemplary punishment meant to deactivate the internationalist solidarity movement within the Spanish State. Supporting this legal defense fund not only ensures the necessary technical, legal, and economic backing for the upcoming judicial process at the Collado Villalba Courts, but also collectively shields the legitimacy of defending Human Rights against repression.

Contributing to this crowdfunding campaign is a direct and necessary way to respond collectively to the judicial punishment faced by those who put their bodies on the line for just causes. Contribute here.

Sineu, a village for people

Led by the non-profit organization Sineu en Bici i a Peu, this community project aims to transform public space in the municipality of Sineu, Mallorca, into a safe, healthy, and livable environment. The initiative plans to create a Xarxa de Carrers Actius (Active Streets Network) covering over two kilometers of urban roads prioritized for pedestrians, featuring a 20 km/h speed limit and two-way cycling access. To actively involve citizens in this cultural shift, the campaign will fund community silk-screening workshops, bicycle mechanics activities, guided walks, and educational outings with local schools.

The project's urgency and relevance are backed by striking data: the Balearic Islands lead Spain's vehicle ownership ranking, and road transport accounts for 35.49% of greenhouse gas emissions in the region. Reducing dependency on private vehicles not only fights the climate crisis but also restores autonomy and safety to children, families, and the elderly who currently experience fear due to motor traffic. The association has already proven the success of its evidence-based methodology through the Rodamilans School Environment Plan, reducing car commutes to school by 20% and nearly tripling bicycle usage in just one year.

Collaborating with this campaign provides a direct opportunity to drive ecological transition and urban pacification from a grassroots neighborhood level. Make a donation here.

XXIII San Pedro Neighborhood Festival

Organized since 2004 by the Asociación Cultural do Barrio de San Pedro, this popular festival stands as a benchmark for self-management, diversity, and community life in the heart of its neighborhood. For this year's 2026 edition, scheduled from June 25 to June 28, the collective seeks to fund a diverse, playful, and accessible cultural program that highlights local identity and strengthens community bonds. The project runs entirely on an altruistic basis, driven by around fifteen coordinators and over a hundred volunteers who dedicate their time to building a vibrant neighborhood from the ground up.

The festival's importance lies in its deeply activist stance against current issues threatening the survival of historic areas, such as mass tourism, gentrification, and the proliferation of holiday rentals. Facing rising rents and neighborhood displacement processes that isolate individuals, the community responds by reclaiming the streets with music, mutual care, hospitality, and cultural activism. The value of this project has achieved institutional recognition, winning the prestigious Martín Códax da Música Award in 2025, validating over two decades of collective effort under the non-negotiable slogan: "Neighborhoods for living, not for speculating."

The festival's success and viability depend entirely on collective funding and the support of allied networks, as it operates completely without profit and relies on local commerce and neighbors. Donate here.
